As you may have gathered, I have quite the affinity for props. Props and flowers can truly make or break a display. And let’s be honest, you see the food before you taste it! Initial visual stimulus is very important, especially when it comes to something on the simpler side like Salad! Your dishes and creations should be more than delicious, they should be fun and inviting too.

I loved that I was able to display a fresh seasonal salad in a mason jar! This prop is not only cute, and fun but it also adds so much dimension to a table display and can be used all-year-around.  This particular event was a truck show for a small boutique, Zieben Mare, located in Franklin, Michigan. I love that the owners of Zieben Mare trust my taste and aesthetic. I’m lucky enough to have the freedom to display the salad anyway I could imagine. Per usual Midwest weather, Spring in Detroit has been taking its sweet time arriving. I wanted to make this display bright and colorful but also easy (and accident proof!) for their customers to enjoy while they’re shopping.

Salad in a Mason Jar?

The ingredients are simple: Heirloom tomatoes, heirloom radishes, roasted Michigan asparagus, goats cheese, and golden marinated beets. Served drizzled with a lemon vinaigrette.  The wide mouth mason jar was the perfect prop to style this Spring salad in. As it’s easier to access with silverware than a deep mason jar.  I paired the salads with a beautiful crudite with my Roasted Hot Pink Beet Dip and Greek yogurt dip. I also got to make one of my favorite Sweet and Savory Tartines: grilled mango with Ricotta and balsamic vinegar. Both of these appetizers are not only colorful and tasty but also very easy to handle and eat and they make the perfect light lunch!
